How is the phrase sex positive offensive to Asexuals, Mistress Matisse?

The Stranger, an online Seattle Newspaper, has come into contact with the Asexual community. It has not always done so in a positive manner. The tone the paper uses has changed in recent years, but it seems that some of their efforts do not go quite as far as they should.  Readers can breathe a sigh of relief when they realize that Dan Savage is not involved in this story. Mistress Matisse seems to have found an unidentified source who believe that Aces find the term sex positive offensive.

Mistress Matisse, a columnist who gives advice on BDSM and relationships recently answered an Asexual letter writer. The Asexual letter writer was wondering if it were possible to have BDSM without the need for intercourse. Matisse wrote that it was possible and that many BDSM events, a bondage and discipline without intercourse was normal, although she clarified that is often expected in private relationships.

The Dapper Ace -- Trendysexuality

The video planned for today would have included the all too elusive Asexual male. (Really the owner of this site wonders exactly why Asexual men are so hard to find for many people. He never has a problem finding one). Instead, this video from The Dapper Ace explores the topic of trendy sexuality.

Elderly Asexuals may not face the problems that Elderly LGBT people face, but they do exist

The public perceives the elderly as Asexual beings. LGBT people are seen as young and rebellious. These perceptions are frequently inaccurate. Older people have the same rates of Asexuality as most of the rest of the population. Older people find that they need to fight the cultural perceptions that they are Asexual beings. Young people are assumed to be highly interested in sex, whether the younger people actually are interested in sex or not.

A new film called “Gen Silent” tackles the perception that the elderly are Asexual beings. It also takes on the issues faced by the LGBT people who are let down by the care systems. These are serious and deeply troubling issues. One reporter continues the notion that a group comprised of largely sexual members must not contain any Asexual members. (Gen Silent itself does not speak to this idea. The film is not about sexuality).

Mormon Christian Vegan Asexual

There are readers who will automatically say the first two things don't go together. They are usually a different crowd than the people who will say that the second two automatically go together. To the people who actually believe this, there is a not-so-subtle hint available. Many Asexuals like to eat meat. Most of them do, in fact. While this is not one of the videos that may deal with the normal issues, it does give a good overview of how these things can go together.
