Get Your Own Real Sonic Screwdriver

Star Trek fans may have to wait for an actual phaser. Physics makes the transporter impossible. Doctor Who fans do not have to wait to have own their very own sonic screwdriver. This video shows the results of an experiment at Dundee university.

 

Sonic screwdrivers have real world applications, including being used for various types of non-invasive surgery. Researchers demonstrated that the fine control to manipulate a screw were possible. Prototypes are not available yet. It is also unlikely the real screwdrivers will provide a deus ex machina for the user.
