Will Sheldon and Amy Have Sex in the Current Big Bang Season?

Big Bang Theory fans know that Amy Farrah Fowler has tried to engage in a more intimate relationship with Doctor Sheldon Cooper. Jim Parson’s character has resisted the charms of the fairer sex throughout several seasons. While the current season has explored several relationships and even introduced the marriage of one of the couples, it is not certain if the Sheldon and Amy combination will consummate their relationship.

Fans know that Sheldon has made many comments about not being inflicted with carnal desires. Fans also know that the actor who plays the character is gay. If they can separate the character from the actor, they may realize that the actor’s off-screen sexuality has no bearing on how the characters interact on screen.

Elementary was disappointing on several levels

When Lucy Liu appeared on the screen, people who watched the first episode had little doubt that the producers intended there to be a sexual relationship between Holmes and the new Watson. Even if the producers never hinted at this, fans would assume it. Fans of the Big Bang Theory assume that Amy and Sheldon will sleep together, although it would be interesting if Sheldon just tells Amy that he is not interested in the act of intercourse.

Asexuals may have watched the show to see where the relationship was headed, but most people would simply assume that these plots take place in the background. The relationship may seem forced as the show develops.

How Fox Can Use Glee to Atone For Its Sins

Glee will start its new season soon. Although the show regularly features gender and sexual minorities in a positive light, neither it nor Fox have treated Asexuals well. The Sexy episode in one of the previous seasons said that people who do not want sex are naïve.

Anyone who has followed the events surrounding Fox and the Asexual community knows that the network does not have a good track record.  Glee's “Sexy” episode made a minor faux pas, House's “Better Half”  made a major error, and Red Eye on Fox News spent four minutes ridiculing Asexuals.  If the network wants to atone for its sins against Aces, it has an excellent opportunity to do so.

CBS's Elementary Airs Tonight

Elementary's pilot airs on CBS tonight. No one knows exactly what the program will be like. Certain items, such as the people who will be playing Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, were released to the general public. The producers of the BBC series expressed concerns about CBS's production. Moffat and the BBC said they will watch the first few shows with interest.

No one knows if the modern-day American adaptation of the Holmes stories will acquire a large Asexual following. Any show or movie involving Arthur Conan Doyle’s consulting detective sparks interest among Asexuals. Some offerings, such as the recent Robert Downey Jr., movies offered little more than a pleasant diversion.

A List of Veracious Asexual Celebrities (Crossposted)

(Note: This article originally appeared on Examiner.com.)

Lists of Asexual celebrities usually focus on entertainers. Many of the famous people who appear on these lists are too dead to either confirm or deny these rumors. Emilie Autumn, Paula Poundstone and a few other artists compose the list of living celebrities. Making a list of famous Asexual entertainers seems strange in some ways. It would be more important to identify the leaders within the Asexual community. A helpful list, but not necessarily a complete one, is compiled below.

David Jay. Jay founded AVEN in 2001 and became the poster boy for the Asexual community. He continues his work as an activist and an Asexual educator. Nationally syndicated talk shows have featured Jay on several occasions.

Sara Beth Brooks. Brooks started the Asexual Awareness Week committee. The AAW committee conducted several events on college campuses in the U.S. and the U.K. last year. The plans for AAW 2012 have not yet been announced.

Swankivy. Swankivy appeared in the (A)sexual documentary. Her snarky videos introduce Asexual issues to cynics and skeptics.

Andrew Hinderliter. Hinderliter maintains a bibliography of existing research about Asexuality. He also serves as the AVEN project team's research coordinator.

Dallas Bryson. The Asexual sexologist belongs on this list even if the reader has never heard of her.

Shula  Asher Silberstein. Silberstein is one of the few Asexual novelists working at the moment.

Regina M. Wright. Wright operates the Bloomington Aces and Allies group. She also proposed the Asexuality panel that will take place at the NWSA 2012 conference.

Michael Dore. Dore is AVEN's UK media contact.

T. Henrik Anttonen and Vlad Draculea. The A Life Podcast covers many different Asexual issues. Silk, cheerleaders, and a dislike of children are often discussed on the podcast.
