Michigan Legislature Refers Julea Ward Freedom of Conscience Act to State Senate

Michigan referred the Julea Ward Freedom of Conscience Act to the state senate. LGBT groups have criticized the bill for allowing discrimination against LGBT individuals. Socially conservative groups have praised the act for allowing students to act based on their conscience and religious beliefs.

The bill allows psychology students, psychiatrists and social workers from treating LGBT patients if the treatment conflicts with their religious beliefs. The therapist or the student must refer the patient to someone else who is willing to provide services to the patient.

Several high-profile officials have urged the organization to change its stance on these issues, but representatives from the Boy Scouts of America have only issued a statement saying that it has no intention of changing its current policies.

Bisexuals More Likely to Drink Heavily Than Gay, Straight Counterparts

No one has studied Asexuals to find out if they drink more or less heavily than members of other sexual minorities. Gays and Lesbians have a slightly higher rate of alcoholism than the rest of the population does, especially among LGBT youth. A new study shows that Bisexuals are most likely to engage in binge drinking, particularly in their early twenties.

The college years are often associated with binge drinking, but the study, which was published by the University of Missouri, shows a heavier drug and alcohol usage rate among Bisexuals, people experimenting with their sexuality, or whose sexuality is fluid than the usage rate among Gays, Lesbians and Heterosexuals.
