New York legislature has no agreement on gay marriage bill yet

The New York state legislature has not come to an agreement on the agreement that would allow same-sex couples to tie the knot in the state. The bill before the senate addresses a number of issues facing residents of the Empire State, including rent control issues. Lawmakers have come to an agreement on bills before most of the senate.

The bill that would allow same-sex couples to get married in the state has not gained any new ground. Law makers have engaged in a number of late-night sessions trying to come to an agreement on the number of the bills. The controversial issue has not made any head way. One state legislator joked that he would need to wear polo shirts to work since he had ran out of dress shirts, according to IB Times.

Same sex marriage legal in New York

New York became the sixth state to legalize same sex marriage, according to Yahoo News.  Though same sex couples will have to wait a month before they can wed. Still, the 30-day waiting period is less than six months Massachusetts allowed to lapse before same-sex couples were allowed to marry.

"That's certainly going to have a ripple effect across the nation", said Ross Levi, executive director of the Empire State Pride Agenda". The reaction from opponents was predictable, such as "God, not Albany, settled the issue of marriage a long time ago," said Diaz, a Bronx minister."I'm sorry you are trying to take away my right to speak," he said. "Why are you ashamed of what I have to say"?  (Diaz is also the leading opponent).

Linda Harvey attacks the It Gets Better Project

Linda Harvey, a right-wing radio talk show host has called Dan Savages It Gets Better” project, “dark, wrong” and evil". She also called the shock jock podcaster and columnist “vulgar, profane and anti-Christian,” according to LGBTQNation.

Savage has made comments that have not endeared him to LGBT groups. He has a bad reputation with Asexuals. Harveys comments seem misguided considering her own religious beliefs probably do not condone suicide.

The comments made on her program seem mystifying. “But they tag on to its approval of homosexuality and the implication that anybody who objects is just like those bullies out there and they’re leading you or others into suicide”, said Harvey during her radio broadcast. Rhetoric similar to Harvey is repeated by other Conservative Christians who feel that any form of disagreement with their position is a form of bullying.
