Brian Brown Challenges Dan Savage to a Debate

Dan Savage challenged Brian Brown to a debate. Neither Brown nor Savage fares well with Asexuals in general, but the Seattle-based columnist has encountered Asexuality before. The latter, to his credit, has at least tried to backtrack form his previous position. Brian Brown, of the National Organization for Marriage, has done little to back off his more extreme comments. Brown warned Savage to name the time and place.

Savage accepted, although heated words were exchanged. The debate came after the journalist spoke to a group of High School Students, and he challenged the authenticity of several parts of the Bible. Not every student present at the assembly agreed with the columnist’s rants; and some walked out in protest.

CeCe McDonald: Another Case of a Person Being Punished for Defending Herself

Darnell Young defended himself against bullies. He faces a suspension from Arsenal Tech high school, but CeCe McDonald, a transgender woman in Minneapolis faced far worse charges for defending herself. As an adult, the consequences McDonald faced for defending herself from attackers were far worse. She faces jail time as a result of a plea bargain.

McDonald’s case did not receive the attention that Trayvon Martin’s case did, but at least the initial details of the event were reported correctly. McDonald received poor legal advice, and this is why she is spending time in jail when her only crime was making sure she could continue to live.

Prayer as a Cure for Asexuality and Similar Orientations

Uganda is a country known for extreme Homophobia; and American Socially Conservative Christian groups who support and, in some cases, help developed some of the country’s more extreme anti-gay policies. The Observer, a Ugandan newspaper, mentioned Asexuality briefly, and it was far tamer than some of the rhetoric directed at LGBT individuals that came from the government.

The author seems to have confused Asexuality with a condition, a common problem even in the United States. The author states near the end of the article that couples need to discuss things among themselves, especially if one partner turns out to be Asexual. Where the author goes wrong is suggesting that there are some things only God can cure.

Darnell Young Should Be Allowed to Defend Himself

Schools often punish bullying victims for defending themselves, rather than taking steps to prevent the problem from getting out of hand. A Gay student in Indianapolis carried a stun gun into his high school, test fired it and warned his tormentors to back off. Officials at his Indianapolis High School knew the problems he was having. Arsenal Tech High School officials told Darnell Young to not be openly Gay if he wanted to stop being the target of the bullies’ attacks.

People may think that this will turn into a rant against bullying, but it is rather a rant against school district policies. Many schools let the tormentors abuse an individual day after day. As long as the tormentors do not cross the zero tolerance policies on school grounds, they do nothing. When the victim finally lashes out at the perpetrators, the victim is the one who gets punished.

Are Homophobes More Likely to Be Gay?

A study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology revealed the men who identify as strongly Straight are more likely to be homophobic and support anti-gay policies. The survey also showed that the people who identified themselves as strongly Heterosexual were more likely to favor harsher punishments for people convicted of a crime if the perpetrator was perceived to be Homosexual.

Researchers asked participants to identify their sexuality on a scale of 1 to 10, with a 1 being strongly Gay and 10 being largely straight. (Asexuality played no part in this particular survey). After the survey, each person was shown a series of images. A subliminal ‘me’ was flashed before each image before it displayed. Each subliminal message lasted a fraction of a second. The time chosen for each display did not give the brain enough time to register the image that it saw. Each person had to identify the image as Gay or Straight.
